    We have an exciting new opportunity for an individual to join the Fleet Engineering Team on a Secondment for up to 6 months as a Project Support Engineer based at our Canton maintenance depot. The Project Support Engineer will be responsible for supporting all engineering and technical aspects relating to fleet projects. You will support the engineering team to, plan, forecast, resource and manage all the technical activities aiming to help assure project accuracy and quality from conception to completion. A sound knowledge of Traction and Rolling Stock Mechanical and Electrical systems is required, the role will involve hands on trial and testing of new or modified train equipment and as such the individual must be a time served and have completed a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent or be able to demonstrate the necessary experience and knowledge to fulfil this Safety Critical post

    The Project Support Engineer will be required to navigate several software applications both generic and bespoke including asset management system, therefor the individual must be computer literate, note there will be training for bespoke applications

    Essential skills: required

    ·       Minimum of 4 years Traction and Rolling Stock experience.

    ·       Be able to work under own initiative.

    ·       Sound understanding of Engineering Principles.          

    ·       Excellent communication skills.

    ·       Excellent presentation skills.

    ·       Excellent IT skills.

    ·       Understanding of project management (derisible)

    ·       HNC/HND/Engineering degree (desirable)

    You will be an active communicator and team player, with an innovative approach to problem solving. It is also essential that you have a recognised apprenticeship with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 and good knowledge of covering Mechanical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Electrical systems.

  • Operations Team Leader

    We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Team Leader to join us at our Canton Depot. We are currently seeking a well-motivated individual to provide support and assistance to the team in Fleet.

    The responsibilities of the role are to safely allocate into Canton all trains arriving off diagrams for servicing and cleaning, to safely move them around the depot, to ensure they are correctly berthed, fuelled, cleaned etc and form up the required service to match the departures.

    This Operations Team Leader is part of the depot management team and liaises with control, maintenance control, Shift Managers, maintenance team leaders, shift production clerks, maintenance staff and cleaning staff, train crew and track maintenance crews throughout each shift to ensure the smooth running of the service. There are five job holders operating on a 24/7 basis so there is always cover for this activity.

     

    Key Skills:

    - Good knowledge of the fleet rolling stock.

    - An understanding of diagrams

    - Qualified to a certain level of shunting

    - Able to use Gemini, Tops, Ravers and Flirt.

    - Experience of managing people.

    - Able to understand the requirements of targets

    The main responsibilities of the role are:

    ·         Preparation of periodic management information and commentaries, including usage of dashboards, analytics and infographics.

    ·         Responsible for production of comprehensive annual budget and forecasts, including relevant P&L, balance sheet and cash flow impacts.

    ·       Independently conduct monthly review meetings with budget holders, to act as the key point of contact for all finance issues for budget holders, and to support them with business cases.

    ·         Periodic presentation of financial performance, forecasts and budget variances, including financial opportunities and risks.

    You will have strong financial disciplines, be commercially minded, and have excellent analytical & numeracy skills. This role involves frequent interaction with directors, senior managers and external stakeholders, therefore you will have excellent communication skills and experience at operating at a senior level. Experience in problem solving in a fast-moving organisation, clear thinking, and decisiveness in both financial & non-financial issues in the organisation is beneficial.

The role will involve manipulation and analysis of large and often complex datasets, with a key focus on drawing out conclusions and recommendations for improvement to be shared throughout the business. Reporting into the Head of Revenue, in this role you will manage two members of staff to help you achieve these objectives and formally deputise for the Head of Revenue as required. You will also liaise directly with key external stakeholders such as Transport for Wales, Department for Transport, Rail Delivery Group and Keolis UK.

    To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
