    Interim Head of Finance – Rail Services, St Mary’s House, Cardiff, salary dependent upon experience (9-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity)

    As we continue our journey to transform the railway in Wales and the Borders, we are looking for an experienced individual to support our CFO in leading our Rail Services Finance team, in a key role as the Head of Finance – Rail Services. This role will be appointed on a 9-month fixed term contract to cover maternity.

    You will be responsible for leading and directing the Rail Services Finance function in all aspects of financial control, financial budgeting and statutory reporting requirements, including financial review of the organisation to optimise financial and operational performance, along with advising on all commercial decisions and potential risks that may affect the organisation.

    Additionally, you will ensure financial compliance in all areas of financial control, to include pensions, technical accounting, budget/forecasting, treasury management, audit matters and corporate governance. You will also be responsible for the continued leadership and development of the finance team, including ensuring the structure evolves to the needs of the wider business.

    You will navigate a broad and challenging stakeholder pool and will seek to lead and advise at the highest level. This will require engaging with key stakeholders such as Transport for Wales and Keolis Group to develop strong working relationships that ensure we work towards a shared vision of collaboration and consistent delivery.


    As a qualified accountant, you will have several years post qualification experience and have worked in a senior finance position at a Financial Controller or Head of level in a suitably complex organisation ideally defined by multiple stakeholders/shareholders. A service industry background would also be beneficial.

    You will have the ability to work under pressure, to manage change and to lead. You will be comfortable being hands on and demonstrate flexibility and resilience. You will also be highly commercial in your approach and capable of responding to changing business needs by identifying and testing appropriate solutions.
