You should excel in your current role, have excellent written & verbal communication skills and above all, possess heaps of motivation for the driver role.  You will need to hold or be prepared to work towards the Coaching & Assessor and Presentation Skills awards, as well as having good IT skills.

  • Project Manager (4 year Fixed Term Contract)

    Transport for Wales Rail Services is expanding its experienced team to deliver its ambitious Station Improvement Plan which will see c.£200 million investment in railway stations across Wales over the next 15 years. We will provide an important gateway to our cities, towns and villages, creating an integrated, accessible and sustainable network of which Wales can be proud.

    Over the next five years, this investment in our railway stations will play a significant part in bringing these plans to fruition and to do this we are recruiting for 2 Project Managers to join us on a 4-year fixed term basis.

    As Project Manager, you will lead the management and delivery of your programme of projects across the Wales and Borders network. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the works from scoping through to tender award, work completion and handover.

    You will be responsible for managing a diverse mix of projects which could include: Telecoms, station facility upgrades, building refurbishments, sustainability or accessibility improvements and flagship station redevelopments.

    Key responsibilities:

    Ensure effective project planning, control and monitoring is in place, working in accordance with the TfWRS Project Management Methodology and PRINCE 2 principles.

    Ensure all works are planned and delivered in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and TfWRS company procedures to make sure that a safe working environment is provided for the execution of the work.

    Manage programme and project budgets working with the finance business partner, external contractors and consultants.

    Work within the governance structure provided by our PMO. 

    Manage project teams (i.e. contractors, designers and suppliers etc.)

    Manage project risks throughout the project lifecycle. 

    Responsible for commercial aspects of all projects from tendering and contractor selection through to reviewing and agreeing contractor payment applications, variations and final accounts.

    Manage projects across the whole Wales and Borders network as required.

    Knowledge & Experience:

    Experience of managing projects through the whole project lifecycle

    Thorough knowledge of project management principles

    Highly organised, proactive, attention to detail, focused, decisive

    Ability to prioritise and manage multiple workloads at various stages of the project life cycle and manage competing priorities

    Nebosh (preferable)

    Project Management qualification such as Prince 2/APMP

    You won’t be doing this alone as you will be part of our wider Safety and Assurance team, joining a group of like-minded professionals all determined to deliver excellent safety management and performance.

    With excellent IT skills, you will be highly competent in report writing, with the ability to provide detailed and meaningful commentary.

    About the ideal candidate

    It is not essential to possess an extensive knowledge of railway performance management systems as full training and support will be provided, however, you will need to have excellent communication skills, a high numerical ability and be very experienced with the use of Microsoft Excel. An understanding of Power BI would be advantageous.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic Conductor to become the next Conductor Instructor at Holyhead Depot and support the Operations Readiness Team as Tier 1 Conductor Trainer for the MK4 project.

    This role will involve gaining competency on the MK4 through practical handling, mentorship and exposure, and then using this competency in the delivery of the training package to the Conductor team at Holyhead.

    This role will involve committing to working towards the TAQA Assessor’s qualification which would be funded by TFW, and then using this competency to assist in the delivery of training, development and assessment of conductors.

    You will be required to possess excellent operational skills, with previous training experience desirable. The successful candidate will also: -

    ·       Be able to work on their own initiative

    ·       Be calm under pressure

    ·       Be self-motivated

    ·       Possess great communication skills
