As part of our journey to transform the railway across Wales and Borders, the Operations Readiness team are looking for a self-starting and determined individual to support the integration of key operational policies. This is a new role, and although an initial secondment, this is an excellent opportunity for someone to shape this position from the outset with the potential to become a longer-term position within the business.
Reporting into the Standards Integration Manager, you will play a crucial role in contributing towards the team’s mission of “leading operational change to safely and efficiently integrate new/cascaded fleet, as well as new infrastructure projects”.
More specifically you will be expected to:
Co-ordinate, review and update policies as required for operational transformation (i.e. for traction introduction or infrastructure changes). An introduction to this process will be provided with on-going support from the Ops Readiness team.
Build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Work alongside Project Managers and monitor the progress of traction introduction and infrastructure changes. As part of this, regular site and traction visits will be required.
Following the easing of travel restrictions in response to COVID-19, travel will be required across key sites in the UK and potentially abroad.
The successful candidate will be required to work on multiple workstreams simultaneously. We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail, excellent planning skills, determination, resilience, strong communication skills and someone who is a self-starter and a fast learner. Throughout this secondment, support will be provided by the candidate’s line manager and the wider team.

Safety Ops Standards Competency Manager (SOSCM)
Salary - depending on experience
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
There are exciting changes planned for the railway in Wales and Borders that will improve the transport network and offer opportunities for all. We are now looking for a talented, full time Safety Ops Standards Competency Manager to make a difference with Operational Safety.
You will coach and assess operational managers in their vocational competence that ensures their skills, ability and knowledge are continually maintained and developed. Working in partnership with operation functions and external stakeholders you will support the development of; operational training, operations standards, methods of work, operational investigation reports and operational risk assessments.
You will ensure operational managers are informed with industry and company standards whilst ensuring we achieve compliance against regulatory standards. Day to day, you will deal with the demands that can arise from train operations, respond to requests from our internal and external stakeholders providing excellent customer service every time.
The SOSCM is a key position within the business and you must have the ability to continually develop effective and efficient working relationships with our internal and external stakeholders whilst providing professional advice, support and guidance that ensures safety is our priority.
- At least 4 years train driving experience
- Experience of working in a local level operational management post
- Strong people management experience, including coaching for high performance
- Relevant geographical knowledge
- Excellent written communication skills

Reporting to the Delivery Project Manager, you will play a key role in driving forward the delivery of a new fully integrated Itrent HR system spanning HR management, Recruitment, Learning & Development and Payroll. This is a business-critical programme which will radically transform the way the business interacts with its people.
The successful candidate will assist on all aspects of the programme, working closely with suppliers and partners and all key internal stakeholders to ensure the specification, design and delivery of the project work meets operational requirements, is customer focused, and hits all key delivery timelines.
The ideal candidate will bring excellent planning, analytical, and communication skills to the role. You will have a proven ability to work effectively within a team, and across numerous business functions to deliver change. You will have the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across a range of stakeholders and bring a flexible “can do” attitude to work to achieve the programmes objectives in the most efficient and timely way.

As we continue our journey across Wales and Borders, we have an exciting opportunity for several FTC Fitters to join us at our Fleet Maintenance Depot in Canton, Cardiff. These roles are available on a range of Fixed Term Contracts.
You will be an integral part of our Maintenance Team in helping us to achieve our high standards of train maintenance through conducting pre-planned exams and unplanned repairs, as well as being responsible for changing engines, transmissions and wheel sets.
In turn you will play a key role in ensuring our targets are not only consistently met but improved upon.
You will be a team player, demonstrate good technical knowledge covering mechanical and hydraulic systems and a strong appreciation of electrical systems, possess a “can do” attitude and an innovative approach to problem solving.
Working a 38-hour week, these roles will cover a variety of shift patters including days, nights, weekends & Bank Holidays, so flexibility is essential.
